Aristarkh LentulovAristarkh Vasilyevich Lentulov was born in the Vorona village of the Penza province in 1882.

Studied at the Seliverstov Art College in Penza (1898-1900), the Art School in Kiev (1900-1904) under Pimonenko, the studio of Kardovskiy in Saint Petersburg (1907-1908).

Lived in Moscow since 1909. Became one of the founders of the "Jack of Diamonds" group (1910). Between the 1911-1912 studied at the Le Fauconnier studio and the La Palette Academy in Paris. There he got to know the new generation of French painters - Gleizes, Metzinger, Leger and Delaunay - and joined the ranks of the Cubo-Futurists. His Paris friends called him a "Futurist a la russe." However, Lentulov by no means became an imitator of the Paris school. He re-interpreted the impressions he gained abroad according to his own exceptional talent and temperament.

After returning from Paris, the artist created a number of panels depicting architectural monuments of Moscow. These works combine the natural impression from medieval architecture, traditional folkloric brightness and a Cubo-Futurist transformation of form. In many of his works from the 1910s, Lentulov used pasted objects. His landscapes of the 1920s retained the exaggerated brightness of color, and acquired new pictorial monumentality.

He has taught at the SVOMAS (Free Workshops) in 1918-1920, VKhUTEMAS / VKhUTEIN (High State Artistic and Technical Workshops / High State Art Technical Institute) and MIII (Moscow Institute of Fine Arts) in 1919-1943.

The artist was the member of the AKhRR (the Association of Artist of Revolutionary Russia) from 1926, and OMKh (Society of Moscow Artists) from 1928. Actually, Lentulov was one of the organizers of the Society of Moscow Artists.

Aristarkh Vasilyevich Lentulov died in Moscow in 1943.
